Tenerife Areas
Tenerife is the largest of the seven islands that make up the archipelago of the Canary Islands. The inland area of the island, like a coffer of natural treasures, includes an incredible variety of landscapes that have led this island to be called a "miniature continent". It is a mountainous island, with abrupt topography, highlighted by the mythical Peak of the Teide with an altitude of 3718 metres. Its climate is mild, due to its location and its being in the path of the Trade Winds. Known world-wide as the "Island of Eternal Spring," its surprising contrasts of landscape can allow one to enjoy swimming in the ocean whilst gazing at snow on the peak of Teide all at the same time. Past volcanic activity has left its mark in Tenerife in National Park, Cañadas del Teide, as have its early inhabitants, the Guanches, in both artistic and religious manifestations. The capital is Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where highlights include the city's commercial district, Las Teresitas Beach, and its Parks, walkways and Museums. There are two distinct areas forming Tenerife: the dry South and the green North. In both areas, we find first-class tourist complexes, a reflection of growing business and trade inherent to the island.
In the south of the Island there are fabulous places in which to purchase your holiday home, or indeed where businesses of many different varieties from bars, restaurants and shops to scuba-diving and water skiing can be run. Sunway Tenerife offer numerous properties in the south and provide you with friendly, professional advice to aid you in your decision. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information on any particular property which may be of interest at www.sunway-tenerife.com If you're looking to spend your future in the sun, contact us, we can help.
If you are at the head of a family and concerned about bringing your children to live here in Tenerife, don't be. All schools have a mixture of many multi-national children and the teachers plan activities to suit them all. Generally children learn Spanish in no time and have fun whilst learning! There are a mixture of state and private schools, to choose from. The state schools finish normally at 2 p.m in the afternoon but in most private schools generally school finishes at around 5.00pm. The perfect solution for parents required to work a full day. State schools are free although school books, writing material the school bus and lunches if required all need to be paid for seperately. (Most parents discover that it costs the same to send their children to a private school as it does to get an afternoon babysitter if their children attend a public school. A point to be considered). Last but not least, children tend to do more sports here than in England thanks to the fine weather which ultimately constitutes a healthier lifestyle!
We have listed the main municipalities of Tenerife which have proven to be the most popular in the South for both tourists and residents alike so please browse our map page and select the area of your choice by clicking on one of the area names in the list which can be found to the left hand side of the map (i.e Adeje). By doing this you will be taken directly to the information requested.

Los Cristianos still retains a hint of the original fishing village it used to be with its fresh fish dispensers on the port and is the second largest holiday resort in the south of Tenerife, the largest being its next door neighbour Playa de Las Américas. The centre is completely pedestrian friendly, which is good news for tourists and a welcome change from the steady flow of traffic typical in areas such as Las Americas. The older area of town is made up of houses in which most of the town's local Canarian population still live. Los Cristianos merges into Playa de Las Americas further down the Coastline and can be reached by bus or on foot. Los Cristianos has two main beaches both of which are suitable for soaking up the sun and swimming lazily. It also has numerous restaurants, and bars including one or two Discos. Travelling time from the Airport is about 15 minutes. Let us not forget the leisure port from where the ferry leaves for the surrounding Islands. Boat trips to see the Whales and Dolphins is another option the port has to offer. The nearby centre hosts a good selection of shops and many pretty pavement cafes along its promenade which runs parallel with the shoreline. It is difficult to determine where Los Cristianos ends and Las Americas begins, especially if we take into account the seafront area known as San Telmo. This is because Las Americas kept expanding eastwards until it reached the Los Cristianos borderline. Los Cristianos is famed for its beaches scattered along the seafront. The most popular one, Playa de las Vistas, was completed in 1997 with the aid of sand taken from the sea-bed itself. Next to the port, amid the hustle and bustle of the town centre, we find another popular stretch of beach surrounded by bars, restaurants and shops.
